About ekovata

EKOVATA IS A GOOD CHOISE TO SAFE ENERGY BILLS FOR HEATING AND

TO HAVE  WARM, COMFORTABLE HOUSE IN WINTER AND

TO KEEP COOL INSIDE IN SUMMER!

EKOVATA is environmentally friendly cellulose thermo-insulating material, which is made from recycled paper and boric additives. EKOVATA is installed in attics and walls of residential and commercial buildings.

According Finnish technologies EKOVATA is produced  by company Ekorema from 1993 year.

Advantages of EKOVATA:

  • GOOD THERMO-INSULATION CHARACTERISTICS

EKOVATA is continuouslly tested on its thermal characteristics by Certification Center of Building Products /Certificate No. SPSC - 4100C dated 2010/,  and VGTU Thermal Insulation Institute in Lithuania. EKOVATA has declared thermal conductivity λ=0.038 < 0.041 W/mK.

  • ECO-FRIENDLY

EKOVATA is made from recycled paper by adding non-volatile  borax and boric  acid, which have no negative affects on health.

  • HYGIENIC

EKOVATA does not contain any volatile toxic additives. It's ascertained, that the mentioned boric additives are completely non-volatile. They can only be carried by hot steam of boiling water. This, of cource, is not possible in any ordinary situation in current context.

  • BIO-PROOF

Boric additives protect EKOVATA and its adjoined construction surfaces from rot and fungus. Insects and rodent don't like to live in EKOVATA.

  • MOISTURE-PROOF

Humidity of EKOVATA depends on humidity of environment, i.e. it's humidty changes just like in wood fibre. When humidity increases outside, the fibers of EKOVATA stick together. A kind of membrane is formed this way, which prevents the air to flow further inward. That's why the membrane of insulation of humidity is not required when using EKOVATA.

  • ACOUSTICALLY SUPERIOR

Cellulose insulation is very effective as a sound control material.

  • SAFE

EKOVATA is classified as refractory material. It protects wooden and metal surfaces from the effect of fire. When boric additives are heatened, moisture is released which prevents the oxygen for flowing in and also absorbs some heat. EKOVATA does not burn nor melt, but only smoulders for as long as there is an external source of fire. And in case of fire EKOVATA does not emit any toxic substances.

Resistance of EKOVATA to fire: House on the left is insulated with EKOVATA, and  on the right - with fiber glass.

Fire has been started at the ceiling inside the house. The house on the right was in flames after 17 minutes. And the house insulated with EKOVATA didn't even start to burn.

The difference between EKOVATA and mineral wool:

10

Fibers of rock wool and glass wool are shown in the above pictures. When looking through microscope, one can see the shiny unbroken glass and rock fibers. These fibers allow the air and humidity to pass. That's why the membrane of insulation of humidity is required when using these materials.

Otherwise warm air escapes the building in winter. The humdity in that air cools down and condences. So, instead of insulation layer you may eventually get a layer of ice. In spring this ice would melt and the humidity would rot/erode the insulation layer and adjoined construction surface.

18struktura

In picture bellow  the structure of fibers of EKOVATA is shown. EKOVATA being the organic cellulose based splint, does not accumulate the humidity, but emits it to the environment. Just like no humidity insulation is required for timber, so it is with the EKOVATA.
